Already an extremely imposing thoroughbred stallion in life, this statue completely dominates its’ site at 110% scale. We were lucky enough to have captured this legendary stallions’ measurements a few months prior to his passing which proved priceless during the sculpt. I very much welcomed the opportunity to sculpt a stallion, later in life as a mature, breeding animal.

Standing over eleven feet tall, this monumental abstract sculpture is unique in several ways. It is comprised of a combination of cast and fabricated bronze plate. This piece was designed to dominate the large garden of this horse-lover’s estate without being too solid or “clunky”. The planes and forms basically follow the equine’s bone and muscle structure.

This special commission was sculpted in a very large, one-half life size scale. The client wanted both stallions in the same piece. I used a spiral as the basic element which ties the two horses together while adding movement.

This large piece is endowed with a wild and spontaneous feel. The treatment is “looser”, thus communicating an immediacy to the sculpting and allowing the materials to work.
