De Oppresso Liber

Bronze
Open Edition
16”x15”x8”

This bronze was the genesis for "America's Response Monument" overlooking Ground Zero and featured in the movie "12 Strong". "De Oppresso Liber" is the Green Berets' motto. Early in 2002, after seeing the first released images of the "horse soldiers" I began sculpting this piece. I was fascinated by the visual imagery as well as the symbolism of a 21st century western soldier working symbiotically with an ancient eastern mountain horse to combat tyranny and oppression. Close collaboration with the actual "horse soldiers" ensured the accuracy of the piece. 16" edition is available.

Pricing available upon request.

THE GREEN BERET

Bronze
Life-sized 8”x10”x11”
Half life-sized 5”x6”x7

”While sculpting the life-sized bust of Medal of Honor recipient, Roger Donlon, I became fascinated with the legacy represented by the Green Beret. The designated head gear of U.S. Army Special Forces, a green beret holds special meaning and significance to those within the Special Operations community. My vision was to create a bronze “Still Life” that through fidelity of detail and form would permanently speak. There are two sizes available. The life-sized edition measure 10-11” in diameter and stands about 8” tall weighing 15 lbs. the half life-sized version measure 6-7” in diameter and stands 5” tall, weighing 5 lbs.

REFLECTIONS OF SERVICE

REFLECTIONS OF SERVICE

14” tall
Bronze and stainless steel
Edition of 60

“Reflections of Service” utilizes my groundbreaking “reflections” sculpture concept to communicate the power and importance of memories. A current-era veteran gazes back through the reflections of time as he contemplates the life-changing events of his past service.

TIP OF THE SPEAR

Edition limited to 25
24"
Bronze

This piece portrays a soldier from the initial units into Iraq during "Operations Iraqi Freedom". The pose is a modern twist on the classic "contrapposto" stance. I selected an interesting treatment with this piece where the texture is clearly "sculpted" and spontaneous, yet all the detail is present and correct. I enjoy using this style for such a piece as it keeps the piece fresh and sculptural.

FACE OF WAR

Edition of 10
12"x16"x12"
Bronze

A very small edition 10. I sculpted this piece after reading the book “We were soldiers once, and young”. I was so struck by the sheer horror of that battle, as I was by the sheer courage and dedication of the soldiers. I wanted to try to portray some of the emotions that such an intense experience produces. I also however, wanted to portray the nature of courage, that it is a decision to persevere and not run away. This kid is terrified and shocked, and yet he is there.
